Jan Frodeno won back-to-back Ironman World Championship titles and the 2008 Olympic gold medalist was looking to create a bit of a dynasty here on the Big Island. Then he had back issues and walked a bunch of the marathon in 2017 and, while winning the 2018 Ironman 70.3 World’s title, he hurt his hip and couldn’t get to the start line last year. He won a hot race in Frankfurt this summer and would like nothing better than to win his third Ironman World Championship title this year.
