Derek Fitzgerald has a story unlike any other. He was diagnosed with cancer after the doctors found a grapefruit sized tumor in his intestines. That led to six months of chemo which killed his cancer but did major damage to his heart. He spent seven years of his life sleeping up to 23 hours a day. After finally receiving a heart transplant he did a 5K followed a few months later by a half marathon, triathlon, and eventually an Ironman. In October of 2015 he became the first American heart transplant recipient to finish the Ironman World Championship. He is now a major part of Endurance Zone TV.
